The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a religious formation program that has its roots in Maria Montessori. Montessori believed that if you prepare the environment, children will learn. In 1954, Sofia Cavaletti used Maria Montessori's method of learning and developed materials that would bring children ages 3 - 5 to God in a very special way. It is a program based on Scripture and the Mass, using hands-on materials to aid the children in learning more about God.
The program is held in the Atrium (a room specially arranged for this class in the Parish Center) on Thursdays from September to May, from 1 to 2:30pm. The Atrium includes a small altar, tabernacle, baptismal font, sample size vestments and other specially designed materials that are meant for hands-on experiences.
The program is open to children ages 3 to 5 on a first come, first served basis. Registration is for a year long commitment and is limited to eight children. The fee for the year is $25. Contact Jeanne at 860.747.6825 for additional information and/or a tour of the Atrium.
